Do you often wish you saw more initiative from your team, were able to increase their engagement, and could connect with them in a way that accessed their potential?  In successful employee relationships, there is a healthy balance between the support and coaching the boss provides, and the demands for consistently great performance that are placed on the employee.  Most boss-employee relationships are skewed to one side or the other.  The most effective boss is a great coach, bringing out the best in each employee while demanding their hard work on their own professional development.

The challenge often lies in the self-confidence the employee possesses, the skills they still need to develop and distractions that cause them to lose focus.
